Media Coordinator and Team Job Description
MoveOn Councils are instrumental in building the progressive movement by bringing together MoveOn Members locally to develop leadership and organize actions. The Media Coordinator and Team works to make sure that the Council is contacting local media about event, and that members are prepped to talk with the media.
Responsibilities of the Media Coordinator and Team:
Build and maintain local media list:

Find contact information for local reporters and outlets online, and build a local media list.

Periodically update your list with reporters who come to events and tend to cover local political stories.

Contact local reporters a few days before and the morning of the event.

Using the MoveOn template press advisory, first add in local information, and then email or fax the press advisory to all media outlets.

Make follow-up calls to reporters after sending the advisory.
Look for reporters at your events:

Prep or act as Council spokesperson at the event. MoveOn will provide talking points for you to use.

Greet members of the press, introduce them to spokespeople, and answer any questions. Remember to ask for their contact information.

If press has cameras, help them get a great shot of your event.
Responsibilities of the Media Coordinator:

The Media Coordinator recruits other Council members to join the Media team and participate in media outreach.

Coordinators will participate in a media training and Media Coordinator orientation.

Media Coordinators can expect to spend 6-8 hours a month on their Council and MoveOn work.

Good communication is an essential part of taking on this role. You'll communicate with your Team, and you'll have frequent contact with your Council Coordinator and Regional Coordinator to plan the media component of upcoming actions and provide important feedback for MoveOn from your Council.
